Police Arrest Man for Attempted Theft from Hulhumale Transformer Station

Police have arrested a 32-year-old man for allegedly attempting to steal electrical components from a transformer station in Hulhumale Phase 2.

Authorities report they received notice of suspicious activity near Hiyaa Flat 13 around 5:30 am on Sunday. Police arrived at the scene and took Ahmed Risfan, from Fehiasseyri in N. Maalhendhoo, into custody.

An investigation into the incident is currently underway. This arrest follows a series of complaints in recent months regarding the theft of electric cables and other components from public spaces.

Earlier this month, the Housing Development Corporation, which oversees municipal services in Hulhumale’, said that cables laid to supply power to street lights in Phase 2 had also gone missing.
