Police Arrest Man in Southern Atoll on Sexual Abuse Charges

Maldives Police Service (MPS) has arrested a 57-year-old Maldivian man from a southern atoll on charges of sexual abuse against a person with disabilities.

According to the police, they received reports on 14 April alleging the sexual abuse of a man with disabilities. Due to the victim’s status, authorities are treating the case in line with legal provisions concerning sexual abuse against minors.

The suspect has been remanded in custody by the court and will remain detained until the trial concludes. The investigation is ongoing.
