Police Disposes Over 2,000 Bottles of Alcohol

The Maldives Police Service destroyed more than 2,000 bottles of alcohol in their custody yesterday.

The alcohol disposed of yesterday in Kaafu Atoll Dhoonidhoo was obtained by the police through cases involving alcohol, including those filed with the police, the Drug Enforcement Department, as well as alcohol confiscated by the Tourist Police and Hulhumalé Police Station.

A total of 2,185 branded bottles, 213 PET bottles and 2,001 beer cans were discarded. PET bottles are made out of a type of clear, durable and versatile plastic. according to the police, 81 miscellaneous items were disposed of as well, such as bags, newspaper papers, and paper boxes.

The alcohol was disposed of under the supervision of a committee constituted for this purpose under the rules governing the disposal of alcohol seized by the police.
