Police Investigate Assault at Café in Malé City

A local youth sustained injuries following an altercation at a café in Malé City, during which a sharp object was used.

The Maldives Police Service confirmed that the incident occurred around 15:38hrs yesterday at a café located in the Maafannu district.

A 22-year-old Maldivian man was injured in the attack and was taken to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) for treatment. Attempts to obtain further details from the hospital were unsuccessful.

Police have stated that an investigation is ongoing.

This incident comes amid a recent rise in assault and battery cases in the Greater Malé region, many of which have involved expatriates. Last Wednesday, four individuals, including a minor, were arrested in connection with an attack on a Bangladeshi national, who suffered an injury to the eyebrow.
