The majority of these accidents occurred in the Greater Malé area, which includes Malé City, Hulhumalé, and Vilimalé. In 2024, these areas accounted for 1,171 reported accidents, a slight increase from the 1,071 incidents reported in the same period last year.

Authorities have not yet indicated the reasons behind this surge, but the statistics highlight a growing concern over road safety in the country.
