Police Reveal Identities of Suspects in Hostage Incident in Hulhumale’
The Maldives Police Service has identified 12 suspects arrested in connection with the hostage incident at Hiyaa Tower 9 in Hulhumale’ Phase II.

The police acted on a tip-off received by intelligence services, responding on Thursday night to rescue the victim held inside a flat. Following their intervention, authorities apprehended the suspects.
According to a statement released yesterday, the Criminal Court has ordered the remand of all 12 suspects. Nine of the individuals were remanded for seven days, while three others were ordered to remain in custody for five days.
The suspects include:
- Alman Khalid, 22, Vehi, GDh. Vaadhoo
- Mohamed Izkan, 18, M. Hathikandu
- Izan Ahmed, 18, M. Hathikandu
These three suspects are being held for five days, while the remaining individuals face a seven-day remand. They include:
- Ahmed Zahidh, 36, Dhanmaru, Sh. Foakaidhoo
- Adam Hussain, 48, Jameela Manzil, L. Maavah
- Ibrahim Nasheed, 34, Hiyaa Gulhshan, L. Isdhoo
- Ahmed Sameeh, 22, Night Star, B. Goidhoo
- Visham Mohamed, 29, V. Gaama
- Visan Mohamed, 30, Hulhumale’ Hiyaa 14-17-3
- Musthag Shakir, 37, Janavareege, GDh. Vaadhoo
- Hassan Galib, 38, Aares, M. Kolhufushi
A video circulating on social media captures the incident, showing the victim with a shaved head, suggesting the suspects were preparing to inflict further harm before the authorities intervened.
Maldives Home Minister Ali Ihusan commented on the case, noting that certain flats and other locations have become recurring sites for criminal activity. He warned that properties used as dens for gang or drug-related crimes could be seized by the state, even if it requires changes to current legislation.
