Police Urges Protection of Minors’ Privacy in Public Disclosures
The Maldives Police Service has called on authorities, media outlets, and the public to safeguard the dignity and rights of minors by adhering to legal guidelines when sharing information about them publicly.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the police highlighted that the law strictly prohibits the dissemination of personal information about minors involved in various cases. They expressed concern over repeated violations of this law by some media and social media platforms, which have shared images and details of minors. Such actions, the police warned, undermine the protection and dignity of children.

The statement emphasised that exposing minors in this manner could lead to significant harm, including psychological and physical impacts. Additionally, the police noted that such breaches increase the risk of further harm and abuse to vulnerable children.
The Maldives Police urged all parties to refrain from sharing identifiable information or images of minors on public platforms. They stressed the importance of complying with legal boundaries when reporting or discussing cases involving children.
This appeal comes amidst growing concerns over the exposure of minors in cases involving criminal activities or vulnerable situations. The police reiterated the importance of prioritising the welfare and safety of children in all public communications.
