The government plans to create a 20-year National Sports Development Plan to promote long-term growth and decentralise sports.
“This will create an environment where all aspiring athletes and sports enthusiasts can thrive, regardless of where they live,” Muizzu said in his statement on the President’s Office.
Additionally, the president said this administration’s goal of developing Fitness and Recreation Centers in every inhabited island in the Maldives within the next two years will ensure equal access to proper facilities for Maldivians, who usually face limited opportunities due to the dispersed geographical build of the nation.
“Sports have the unique ability to unite people, break down social barriers, and foster a sense of belonging. As we mark this pivotal day, we call on all stakeholders, athletes, coaches, associations, and communities to join us in this journey of inclusivity and progress for the betterment of our nation,” Muizzu said regarding International Day of Sport for Development and Peace.
