The Parliament approved his appointment yesterday. When the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) opened for applications for the vacant position on the Supreme Court following the resignation of Justice Husnu Al Suood, two other candidates applied for the position. They are lawyer Rusdhullah Ibrahim and former prosecutor general Mariam Nihayath.

Suood resigned from the Supreme Court accusing the state of interfering with the judiciary following his suspension by the JSC, as the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) started a criminal investigation against him and two other Supreme Court justices.

Uz Hussain Shaheedh, a seasoned legal professional, has also served as the High Court’s Chief Judge and Judge at the Criminal Court. He holds a Master of Islamic Judicial Science, Sharia Policy, and Jurisprudence and Law, LLB.
