President Dr Mohamed Muizzu travelled to Liverpool, United Kingdom, last night to kick off a Maldives tourism promotion campaign in collaboration with Liverpool Football Club.

This campaign is part of the co-branded initiative between Liverpool FC and the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC)/Visit Maldives. On 13 March, MMPRC/Visit Maldives announced its partnership with Liverpool FC as the club’s “Official Tourist Destination Partner.” The three-and-a-half-year global campaign aims to boost brand visibility and attract more travellers to the Maldives.

To reinforce this initiative, Visit Maldives launched an outdoor marketing campaign in the UK on 27 March, leveraging the LFC partnership to draw more visitors. According to the President’s Office, MMPRC will lead this three-month campaign, deploying high-impact outdoor and digital advertising across key locations in the UK. The campaign features over 100 fully branded taxis in London, alongside advertisements on buses, the London Underground, major airports, and business class lounges.

During his visit, President Muizzu will meet Maldivian students and tour the AXA Training Centre, where he will observe best practices in football training and coaching. He aims to explore ways to integrate high-performance training methods in the Maldives. Additionally, he will visit Leeds University and Leeds Town Hall, where he will meet the Councillor of the City of Leeds.

Meanwhile, relevant Ministers will engage with senior officials from Red Way and the LFC Academy to discuss joint marketing initiatives that promote tourism and strengthen the Maldives’ partnership with Liverpool FC.

Accompanying the President are Thoriq Ibrahim, Minister of Tourism and Environment; Abdulla Rafiu, Minister of Sports, Fitness, and Recreation; Ibrahim Shiuree, Managing Director of MMPRC; and other senior government officials.

President Muizzu is expected to conclude his visit and return to Malé on Saturday, 5 April 2025.
