President Muizzu arrives in Estonia for an Official Trip

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu arrived in the Republic of Estonia today on an official visit. 

President Muizzu departed for this trip last night, which being done at the invitation of His Excellency Dr Alar Karis, President of the Republic of Estonia..

Muizzu will be accompanied by a high-level delegation, including representatives from the Maldives’ tech community. He will engage in meetings and other high-level engagements to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the Maldives and Estonia. Key areas of focus will include cybersecurity, digital innovation, e-governance, climate and environmental issues, and advancements in science and education.

According to the President’s Office, the goal of this visit is to pave the way for the digital transformation envisioned by President Muizzu. Since he took office in November 2023, he has actively promoted this objective both domestically and internationally, seeking partnerships with nations committed to building a digital and sustainable future.

This is his first official international trip this year. President Muizzu spent most of last week touring the Gaafu Alifu and Gaafu Dhaalu atolls, meeting with the local Island Councils, residents, and their Women’s Development Committees, and enquiring about the issues and challenges these communities face. 

The administration exceeded its approved budget for travel expenses by over MVR 28 million last year. As of 26th December, the government spent MVR 287 million on travel expenses, well over the approved MVR 228 million.
