President Muizzu Attends Dinner hosted by Estonian President, Extends Invitation back to Maldives

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu attended a special dinner hosted by Estonian President Dr Alar Karis yesterday during his ongoing visit to Estonia.

President Muizzu arrived in Estonia yesterday at the official invitation of their president, making the visit to the North European nation his first international trip of 2025. This is the first time a Maldivian Head of State has visited Estonia.

Speaking at the dinner, Muizzu said the trip would nurture a strong friendship between the two countries. 

“It symbolises our shared commitment to bridge our two countries through understanding and collaboration,” Muizzu said.

He praised Estonia’s technological contributions and achievements and expressed his hope that the two countries can collaborate to create a more sustainable future.

“President Dr. Karis, your visionary leadership and Estonia’s remarkable achievements in digital transformation and innovation inspire us. Your country stands as a beacon of how technology can empower societies, and we look forward to learning from Estonia’s expertise in this field,” he said.

President Muizzu extended the hospitality and invited President Karis to visit the Maldives. 

Estonian Minister of Education and Research, Kristinna Kallas, and the Minister of Climate, Dr. Yoko Alender, also paid courtesy calls since Muizzu’s arrival in the country. During these visits, they discussed Estonia’s robust education system and how it can enhance the Maldivian education system, as well as the country’s achievements in energy conservation. 

In his discussion with Dr Andler, President Muizzu noted Estonia’s commitment to being an environmentally friendly nation and its use of renewable energy. She discussed climate change and energy sustainability during this meeting as well. 

Additionally, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the two nations to enhance knowledge exchange, cooperation and support in areas of climate change, environment, and energy. Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Abdulla Khaleel signed on behalf of Maldives, while Dr. Andler represented Estonia in this agreement.
