President Muizzu Stresses National Pride and Military Readiness at MNDF’s 133rd Anniversary

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu emphasised the importance of national pride, military readiness, and commitment to ensuring the nation’s sovereignty during last night’s ceremony to celebrate the Maldives National Defence Force’s (MNDF) 133rd anniversary.

The ceremony was held in Kalhuthuh’kalaa Koshi. In addition to the president, Chief of Defence Force Major General Ibrahim Hilmy also spoke at the ceremony.

During Muizzu’s speech, he urged every Maldivian to take pride in the armed forces’ achievements and support ongoing efforts to strengthen their operational capacity. He emphasised that the safety and security of the Maldives depend on a firm commitment to raising military standards, providing essential resources, and maintaining rigorous training for service members.

Muizzu highlighted the need for a collective approach to national defence, driven by genuine patriotism and a shared responsibility to safeguard freedom for future generations. He firmly criticised those who undermine the military’s progress, describing them as unpatriotic and self-serving. 

Calling on citizens to reject negativity towards national defence, Muizzu encouraged a spirit of unity and support for the armed forces. He urged Maldivians to embrace a national identity founded on a deep love for their homeland.

He also announced that applications for the National Service would open soon, reinforcing a comprehensive approach to strengthening the military.

115 Soldiers Took Oath of Service

During last night’s ceremony, 115 soldiers—105 men and 10 women—took the Oath of Service after completing their basic training. High Court Justice Uz Mohamed Niyaz administered the oath, while President Muizzu carried out the symbolic handover of rifles to the new soldiers.

Additionally, Muizzu honoured the fittest soldiers of the past year and commended units that delivered outstanding performance, including the team that excelled at the prestigious Pakistan Army Team Spirit (PATS) competition.
