President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is set to deliver his inaugural presidential address tomorrow, marking a significant event in the Maldives political calendar.
According to Article 84 of the Constitution of the Republic of Maldives, the president is mandated to deliver an annual presidential address, outlining the state of affairs in the nation and presenting priorities for its advancement.
Scheduled to commence at 9:00 am tomorrow, the opening session of Parliament will solely feature the presidential statement, symbolizing the commencement of legislative proceedings for the year.
Muizzu’s statement is anticipated to provide insights into the government’s policy agenda, particularly focusing on initiatives aimed at fostering national development.
Traditionally, the day of the presidential address is observed as a public holiday. However, in a departure from convention, Muizzu has opted not to declare it as a holiday.
Following the presidential address, the second session of Parliament is slated to convene at 2:00 pm, during which proposed amendments to the General Elections Act will be deliberated upon.
