The official Twitter account of the President’s Office has removed several tweets and accompanying photos documenting President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s interactions with world leaders on the sidelines of the COP28 summit in the UAE.

The now-deleted tweets initially highlighted Muizzu’s engagements during the summit, where he met and exchanged pleasantries with various leaders. The President’s Office shared photos depicting these encounters, mentioning discussions aimed at strengthening international ties. However, no specific details regarding the content of these discussions were disclosed.

Criticism arose when it was noticed that the President’s Office had hidden replies to some of these posts, raising concerns about transparency and openness in communication.

Notably, a tweet referencing a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi was initially deleted and subsequently re-shared with additional information. The revised tweet explained that the leaders discussed matters of significance to both nations and explored avenues to enhance bilateral relations.

While the President’s Office initially asserted that the COP-28 summit had contributed to improved relations between the Maldives and two specific countries, the removal of certain tweets has sparked public discontent. Critics argue that the deletions erode transparency and accountability in the communication efforts of the President’s Office.

The move has prompted public scrutiny, with citizens expressing disappointment and demanding clarity on the reasons behind selectively deleting tweets.
