Prosecutor General Requests Investigation into Former Administration’s Settlements
The Prosecutor General’s Office has requested the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to launch a criminal investigation into settlement agreements signed during the previous administration.
The request follows findings outlined in a review conducted by Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee, which flagged potential irregularities. The Prosecutor General’s Office has called for an urgent investigation into settlements signed by the government between 17 November 2018 and 17 November 2023.
PG urged the ACC to provide updates on the progress of the investigation.
The office noted that the parliament committee report raised suspicions of misconduct by government officials, including allegations of abuse of power and misusing their positions to confer benefits on others.Meanwhile, the Attorney General’s Office recently declared nine settlement agreements, amounting to MVR 1 billion, signed during the same period, as void ab initio.
