Thalassaemia patients and their families staged a protest near Maldives Blood Services (MBS) last night, calling for the resignation of the Thalassaemia Centre’s management.
The demonstration followed a meeting held at 10:00 pm to address ongoing issues related to blood transfusions and faulty filters, which protesters claim have remained unresolved for three months.

Concerns were raised over defective filters that cause blood to be wasted, as some packets become damaged during transfusions. Protesters expressed frustration, stating that securing blood donations is already challenging, particularly during Ramadan, and that it is distressing to see blood being discarded due to what they described as negligence by the centre’s management.
Videos circulating on social media show demonstrators highlighting the lack of action despite repeated complaints.
