Publication of Gedhoruveriyaa Scheme Beneficiaries List Postponed Indefinitely
The government has announced an indefinite postponement of the publication of the beneficiaries list for the Gedhoruveriyaa social housing scheme.
In a statement issued today, the Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development attributed the delay to the need for further review by an advisory committee appointed by the president. The committee requires additional time to re-evaluate the preliminary list of beneficiaries.
The Gedhoruveriyaa housing scheme, introduced in 2022 during the administration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, received over 20,697 applications. The initial list of beneficiaries was made public just two days before the end of the former administration.
The current administration initiated a re-evaluation of the list after complaints were reportedly lodged with the Anti-Corruption Commission, raising concerns about the integrity of the selection process.
According to the ministry, the findings of the advisory committee will be disclosed upon completion, although no specific timeline has been provided.
The Housing Ministry has faced criticism for repeatedly delaying the publication of the list, with tentative deadlines being postponed on several occasions in recent weeks. Despite the delays, the ministry stated today that it remains committed to ensuring the flats are allocated to the most deserving applicants.
