Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, has announced forthcoming reductions in the costs associated with Hajj and Umrah for Maldivian pilgrims.
The changes in the Hajj Corporation are expected to alleviate financial burdens for those undertaking these sacred journeys.
The announcement came during a signing ceremony for the agreement that facilitates the handover of 1,000 Hajj quotas to the Hajj Corporation. Minister Shaheem, representing the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, signed the agreement, while Managing Director Mohamed Shakeel signed on behalf of the Hajj Corporation.
Minister Shaheem expressed confidence that the decision would yield numerous benefits for the public. He clarified that the move is not intended to impede the private sector’s operations, emphasising that the decision was made after careful consideration of past issues, such as organizations exploiting the process for financial gain.
Muizzu has additionally pledged to increase the quota for Hajj pilgrims from Maldives, signaling a broader commitment to strengthening Hajj and Umrah-related activities.
Currently, there are 6018 individuals registered in the queue of the Hajj Corporation, with 4706 having fulfilled their dues for Hajj. The move to reduce prices aligns with broader efforts to make these sacred pilgrimages more accessible to a larger segment of the population.
