The Swimming Association of Maldives has opened registration for the 2025 National Long Distance Swimming Championship, scheduled to take place on 17 May in Kudagiri.

As in previous years, the open water swimming competition will be held at the 8.5-hectare Kudagiri island, located approximately 15 minutes from Malé. This will be the third time the national championship is hosted at the island.

Interested participants may submit application forms directly to the Swimming Association by 14:00 on 4 May. Registration can be completed via the official application form here. The Association has also released the official rules for the event.

Organisers noted that the number of athletes expected to compete this year is higher than ever. The competition will award titles in multiple categories, including the national men’s and women’s long distance swimming champions, along with second and third place winners. Junior champions and runners-up will also be recognised.

In addition, winners will be selected separately for the Swim Challenge Open and Swim Challenge Masters categories, with medals awarded to first, second and third place finishers. Every child who completes the Kids Swim Challenge race will receive a medal, while all EAD Swim Challenge finishers will be presented with a finisher medal.

In last year’s championship, Mohamed Rihan Shiham successfully defended his title in the men’s five kilometre race, while Ayana Areef won the women’s title for the first time. Yaseen Mohamed Yusuf and Mubal Azzam placed second and third in the men’s race, respectively. In the women’s competition, Ayana’s closest challengers were Aishath Aleena Shahid and Laiba Hassan Manik.
