Originally constructed during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen, the Izzudheen Jetty underwent a major redesign and reconstruction in 2015 to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of the Maldives’ independence. Additional repairs were carried out in 2017.
The current renovation includes replacing the previous three-storey sail-shaped roof with a design featuring three standard roofs. According to the Ministry of Construction, the project is expected to cost MVR 11.7 million.
A public notice at the jetty site outlines the scope of the ongoing work and details planned structural updates. The jetty will remain closed to the public until renovations are complete.
