Renowned Singer Mariyam Dha’tha, Known for ‘Roohuvany Thinadhoogaey,’ Passes Away

Mariyam Didi, also known as Mariyam Dha’tha, the celebrated singer hailing from GDh, Thinadhoo, whose fame soared with the unforgettable hit “Roohuvany Thinadhoogaey,” has sadly passed away yesterday, at the age of 73.
Her demise is being mourned as a profound loss to the community of Thinadhoo, where Mariyam was held in high regard.
Mariyam, who was born blind, was an icon in Thinadhoo and earned national recognition for her extraordinary talent.
Her journey to nationwide acclaim began with the hit song “Fenmeeru Reethi Rashey Mee, Roohuvany Thinadhoogaey,” a melodious ode to the scenic beauty of the southern island of Thinadhoo.
Subsequently, she collaborated on numerous projects with the acclaimed poet Abdulla Afeef.
Mariyam’s contributions were also recognised on a national level when she received the National Award for Public Service in 1982.
