Residents Walled In Due to Unlawful Registry Issuance, Says Male’ City Council

The Male’ City Council has reported that residents of Henveiru Hudhufinifenmaage have been walled in by a barrier due to the unlawful issuance of a home registry.

At a press conference held yesterday, the Council’s legal representative, Abdulla Abdul Hakeem, detailed the incident, highlighting a 27-year-long dispute over the Male’ City residence.

Hakeem explained that the house, originally measuring 3,980 square feet, was divided into two plots: Hudhufinifenmaage and Hudhufinifenmaage Aage. An alley measuring 320 square feet, part of the 1,985 square feet area of Hudhufinifenmaage, is at the centre of the dispute.

Further subdivision of Hudhufinifenmaage resulted in two new plots: one named Kubra and the other retaining the original name. Both plots can only be accessed via Hadheebee Magu. The former house was initially registered to Hawwa Ibrahim and Hassan Shakir.

However, Hudhufinifenmaage was later solely registered to Hassan Shakir, excluding an access lane for Hawwa Ibrahim. In 2020, a separate registry was issued under Shakir’s name, permitting construction that ultimately obstructed access to the rear plot of Hudhufinifenmaage.

The issue escalated after the wall of Hudhufinifenmaage Aage was constructed. Hakeem stated that while the construction of a perimeter wall of a private residence typically falls outside the Council’s jurisdiction, they had demanded that access be provided to Hawwa Ibrahim within four weeks. The situation has since intensified as access has not been granted.
