Riyaz Rasheed to Support President Solih in Presidential Elections

Former Parliament Member of Vilufushi, Riyaz Rasheed, has announced his support for the incumbent President Solih in the upcoming second round of the presidential elections.

This decision was announced following a meeting between Riyaz and President Solih last night.
Riyaz cited his longstanding friendship with President Solih as a primary reason for his decision to extend his support. He stated that the President had personally requested his backing, and he viewed this endorsement as more than just a nominal gesture.
“He asked for my help, and I supported it,” remarked Riyaz.
Riyaz’s journey to endorsing President Solih comes after he declined a similar invitation to participate in the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) campaign in 2018.
Explaining the rationale behind his choice, Riyaz acknowledged the complexities of governance.
Riyaz Rasheed highlighted the subjectivity of people’s perceptions, pointing out that individuals may have varying viewpoints when it comes to governance. He stressed that all governments, including the current administration, exhibit both positive and negative aspects.
Riyaz Rasheed previously served as the deputy leader of the PPM Parliament Group during the tenure of former President Abdullah Yameen.
