The need for these by-elections arose following the presidential election win of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, which resulted in the Male’ City Council’s mayoral position becoming vacant. This vacancy was filled by former MTCC Managing Director Adam Azim in an earlier by-election.

PNC Chairperson and Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla attributed the party’s success in the by-elections to the growing popularity of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Abdul Raheem congratulated the winning candidates and expressed gratitude to the voters.
