Singaporean Firm Proposes LNG Power Generation in Maldives

The government has announced that a Singaporean company has shown interest in developing power generation infrastructure using Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) in the Maldives.

Minister of Climate Change, Environment, and Energy, Thoriq Ibrahim, revealed on social media platform X that Chi Energie, a Singapore-based company, has submitted a proposal to establish an LNG-based power generation network in the island nation.

According to the minister, discussions regarding the proposal took place during a meeting at the ministry.

LNG power generation produces approximately 50% less carbon dioxide emissions compared to coal-based energy production. While LNG is not a renewable energy source, it is considered a low-carbon alternative, offering a less environmentally damaging option than traditional fuel-based power generation.
