Solih Concedes Defeat in Election

Incumbent President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has officially recognised his defeat in the Maldives’ presidential election, extending his congratulations to President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, representing the PPM-PNC coalition.

Taking to Twitter, President Solih conveyed his congratulations to Dr. Muizzu.

Muizzu emerged as the frontrunner in the initial round of the presidential election, which took place on September 9. He garnered 46 percent of the votes, while President Solih secured 39 percent. 

In the runoff held on September 30, interim results suggest that Dr. Muizzu has maintained his lead, securing over 54 percent of the votes, while President Solih achieved 46 percent.

He also expressed his gratitude towards those who cast their votes in support of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and acknowledged the efforts of his campaign supporters.
