Speculation has arisen regarding the reasons behind Shamnaz’s arrest, with unconfirmed reports suggesting allegations of involvement in activities related to black magic targeted at President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. However, official sources have not corroborated these claims.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Ahmed Shifan, when questioned about the case involving Shamnaz and two others, refrained from divulging further details, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.

Shamnaz, who is married to Adam Rameez, a Minister at the President’s Office, previously served alongside Muizzu during their tenure at the Male’ City Council.

Upon Muizzu’s election to the presidency last year, Shamnaz resigned from her council position and was subsequently appointed as a state minister at Muliaage, the presidential residence, before later being transferred to the Environment Ministry.

As of now, the government has yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
