STELCO Reports Progress With Muizzu’s 5 Million Trees Pledge
State Electric Company (STELCO) has planted 52,334 trees from June 5th to December 21st this year, contributing to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s pledge to plant 5 million trees over the next five years.
According to STELCO’s Managing Director, Hussain Fahymy, the company has been successfully cultivating an average of 8,340 plants per month. With this pace, the company expressed confidence that it will be able to meet its goal of planting 500,000 trees over the next five years.
On this year’s World Environment Day, Muizzu officially launched the 5 Million Tree Project, a key component of his manifesto and the strategic action plan of the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment, and Energy.
According to the President’s Office, this initiative reflects the government’s commitment to safeguarding the country’s ecological systems and mitigating the impact of climate change for the benefit of future generations.
In light of the progress made, Fahmy expressed gratitude for the initiative led by the current administration and urged the community to “work together for the betterment of our nation, rather than allowing divisions to hinder our progress.”
