Staff from the State Electric Company (STELCO) rescued a group of children who were struggling against strong winds, heavy rain, and rough tides while swimming off the coast of Thoddoo in the Alif Alif atoll.
The children had been making unsuccessful attempts to return to shore when they were spotted by STELCO employees. The staff promptly swam out to assist the children, ensuring their safe return to land.
The stormy weather has also caused significant damage across the island. STELCO personnel have been actively involved in safeguarding residents and mitigating the effects of the severe weather. Their efforts included removing large branches that had broken off trees and fallen onto the roofs of homes.
Weather forecasts indicate that stormy conditions will persist throughout the week, with central Maldives expected to experience heavy rains, strong winds, and rough seas. Authorities are urging the public to take necessary precautions and remain vigilant during this period of adverse weather.
