State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has called on the public to submit complaints regarding the latest utility bills, which have seen a significant hike, assuring that all complaints will be addressed within 24 hours.

The appeal comes in response to widespread public criticism over the substantial increase in May’s utility bills. Many have questioned the reasons behind this surge, especially given the rainy weather experienced throughout the preceding month.

Yesterday, a group of locals gathered outside STELCO’s headquarters to express their frustrations. In response, STELCO took to social media platform X, urging customers to contact their Customer Service Billing Number at 7788438 via WhatsApp or Telegram to lodge their complaints. Complaints can also be submitted via email at billing@stelco.com.mv.

STELCO reiterated its commitment to respond to all complaints within a maximum of 24 hours from receipt.

Previously, STELCO had attributed the increase in utility bills to higher usage. During Ramadan, utility providers, including STELCO, had extended discounts on bills as part of a pledge made by Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

The company noted that the charges for May would appear higher compared to the discounted bills issued in March and April.
