The Maldives’ Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, Dr Abdulla Muththalib, has expressed confidence that the Thilamale Bridge project will be completed within the scheduled timeframe.

A key structural milestone was reached last Thursday, with the placement of the tallest section of the bridge’s concrete pillars onto the main structure. The Indian High Commission in the Maldives shared updated visuals of the development on its official X account, noting that the newly added segment is the world’s tallest precast navigation span component.

Following the achievement, Dr Muththalib extended his congratulations to the Indian Ambassador to the Maldives, G.K. Balasubramanian, for his involvement in the project and conveyed the government’s appreciation. He indicated that this progress would help expedite the remaining construction work in line with the project’s timeline.

The segment installed this week measures 8.23 metres in length, 25.37 metres in width, and weighs 216.04 metric tonnes. The Indian High Commission described the successful placement as a major step forward in the development of the bridge.
