The Thinadhoo Council in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll has announced a ban on sports and entertainment events during Ramadan, urging residents to prioritise prayers throughout the holy month.
The Council expressed gratitude to Thinadhoo residents for their exemplary conduct during Ramadan last year. It called on the community to refrain from organising sports and entertainment activities, particularly during the nights of Ramadan, and to focus instead on prayer and religious observance.
The Council stated that sports and entertainment events would not be permitted in venues allocated for social events or any other locations, including private homes. It also clarified that official events unrelated to sports or entertainment should only be held if deemed absolutely necessary. Religious activities connected to Ramadan, however, are exempt from these restrictions.
For any Ramadan-related events, the Council advised organisers to notify the relevant authorities in advance. Such events must not coincide with prayer times and should be conducted in a way that does not cause public inconvenience.
Additionally, facilities designated for health and exercise purposes will be available only at specific times during Ramadan.
The Council warned that individuals who fail to adhere to these guidelines or act in defiance of them would not receive cooperation from the local authority in other matters. It also indicated that appropriate actions would be taken against violators if necessary.
