Tholal Addresses Concerns Over FAM Election Process

In a recent statement released by Commisioner of Sports Mohamed Tholal, at the Ministry of Sports, Fitness, and Recreation, concerns have been raised regarding the electoral process of the Football Association of Maldives (FAM). Tholal has taken a decisive step by requesting the resignation of several members of the FAM’s executive committee, citing a loss of quorum.

Despite Tholal’s call for resignations, it has come to light that the requested information, particularly concerning the resignations of five executive committee members and the General Secretary on specific dates, has not reached Tholal’s office within the stipulated time frame.

Tholal expressed concern over questionable historical practices surrounding the announcement of the FAM executive committee elections and the subsequent resignations of key members. Notably, the absence of information from the letters submitted by the executive committee members has raised doubts about the association’s adherence to its own protocols.

Highlighting the irregularities, Tholal underscored the violation of the association’s executive committee procedures and the ensuing consequences. The absence of a general secretary, coupled with the loss of quorum within the Executive Committee, has resulted in a halt to all ongoing FAM elections.

In response to these developments, Tholal has formally notified the relevant agency, emphasizing the need for transparent and fair processes within the Football Association of Maldives.
