Tourism Nears Record Target as Visitor Arrivals Surpass 1.6 Million

The Maldives has welcomed over 1.6 million tourists so far this year, edging closer to its annual target of a record two million visitors. 

According to data released by the Ministry of Tourism, 1,614,676 tourists visited the island nation by 23 October, representing a 9.4% increase from the 1,476,573 arrivals recorded during the same period last year. With the year’s goal set at two million visitors, the Maldives now requires an additional 385,324 arrivals to reach its target.

China remains the leading source market, contributing over 230,000 tourists, followed by Russia and the United Kingdom.

In October alone, the Maldives received 122,649 visitors, marking a 6.2% increase over the 115,525 arrivals recorded in the same period last year. October’s daily average arrivals stand at 5,333 visitors, while the year-to-date daily average is 5,437.

Tourists are staying an average of 7.7 days, highlighting the Maldives’ continued appeal as a premier destination.
