Two Arrested in Connection with Suspected Arson of Car in Malé City

Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the suspected arson of a car parked near SinaMale’ in Malé City.

According to the police, they were alerted to the incident on Monday, when reports indicated that a vehicle parked in the SinaMale’ 1 parking lot on Buruzu Magu had been set on fire.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Khalid Mahmoodh, 35, of M. Araaraiykuri, and Hassan Naseem, 31, of Blue Wind, Maamigili, Alif Dhaalu Atoll. They were taken into custody under a court order. At this stage, the police have not disclosed any additional details about the investigation.

A video circulating on social media shows the car’s front section engulfed in flames. The Maldives National Defence Force’s Fire and Rescue team responded to the scene, extinguishing the fire before it could spread further.

Man Arrested for Stealing Mobile Phones After Hiding in Closet to Evade Police

A man has been arrested in Male’ for allegedly stealing high-end mobile phones from a house after being discovered hiding in a closet with a bag over his head in an attempt to evade capture.

The arrest order reveals that Adam Mohamed, 33, from Kulhudhuffushi in Haa Dhaalu Atoll, broke into the property at night. CCTV footage showed him entering the house, moving through the premises, and stealing two expensive mobile phones.

When officers arrived at his residence to apprehend him, Mohamed attempted to conceal himself inside a closet, covering his head with a black bag.

At his court appearance, during the remand hearing, he invoked his right to remain silent, stating, “Please hurry up… I will use my right to remain silent,” and did not provide any further defence. The court has remanded Mohamed in custody for 15 days while investigations continue.
