The five individuals arrested in connection with the case are:

  • Ali Sami of Mehura, Raa Atoll Kan’dholhudhoo
  • Ahmed Saaif Waheed of Hudhuveli, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll Gahdhoo
  • Mohamed Nahushan Hussain of Uthuruge-Aage, Thaa Atoll Thimarafushi

  • Ahmed Zayan of Link, Thundi, Laamu Atoll Gan

Of these suspects, Mohamed Nafaah and Ahmed Zayan are MNDF officers, while the other three have prior records related to drug offences. The Criminal Court has remanded Nafaah in custody until the investigation is concluded, while the remaining four will remain in custody until the end of their trial.

During a press conference yesterday, Chief Superintendent of Police Hassan Shifau confirmed that the MNDF has been informed of the involvement of its officers and that steps are being taken to address the matter within the force.

In addition to the five arrested adults, three minors were also implicated in the abduction and torture, and police are continuing to investigate their involvement. Superintendent Shifau further disclosed that the victim had been held in an apartment leased by two of the accused, where the torture took place. The investigation revealed that the accused had been using the victim to conduct illegal drug sales.

A search of the apartment uncovered a bottle of alcohol, drug-packaging materials, and a scale. Drugs were also found in a wallet recovered from the scene, Shifau added. Investigations are ongoing as police continue to gather evidence surrounding the case.
