Umar Naseer, a contender in this year’s presidential election, has highlighted his commitment to addressing the pressing issue of drug abuse within the country. Speaking at neighborhood meeting, Umar emphasised that combatting the drug epidemic is paramount in his campaign agenda.

Umar underscored the growing prevalence of drug-related challenges across the nation, citing its detrimental impact on society as a whole. He further asserted that while infrastructure development remains a focal point for any government, addressing the drug issue holds equal importance due to its far-reaching effects on families and communities. Umar stressed the necessity of resolute leadership to effectively address this issue.

“Inaction is not an option when it comes to drugs. The specter of drug abuse can infiltrate any household, taking various forms. Thus, my foremost objective is to safeguard the nation from the clutches of drugs,” Umar stated.

Umar also noted the disconcerting reality that over 7,000 families in the Maldives have been impacted by the drug menace, an issue often overlooked by the political discourse.

This, he argued, serves as a compelling justification for his prioritization of the drug problem within his campaign manifesto. Umar expressed his conviction that addressing the drug crisis directly correlates with improving the quality of life for ordinary citizens.
