Over 300 Yellowfin Tuna (Kanneli) have been captured in the lagoon of N. Maafaru, prompting a wave of excitement among the islanders.

The Maafaru lagoon has been unexpectedly visited by a substantial number of fish, marking an unprecedented event in history for the island. While fish have entered the lagoon before, this instance is marked by its uniqueness.

At 4:00 pm yesterday, residents gathered along the beach with a shared aim to capture the school of tuna that had ventured into the lagoon. The crowd initially was uncertain about the nature of the event, but their anticipation surged as they were informed of the presence of sizeable fish within the lagoon.

Numerous images and videos documenting the unfolding scene have been disseminated across various media platforms.

A council member representing Maafaru reported that the fish were brought ashore at 7:30 pm. Notably, the event witnessed the enthusiastic participation of men, women, children, and visitors of the island.

The councillor disclosed that approximately 300 to 400 fish were caught, an accomplishment that has left the community elated. The harvested fish were then fairly distributed among all island households, each receiving a fish along with a portion of the captured bounty.
