WAMCO to Introduce Demolition Services 

The Waste Management Corporation Limited (WAMCO) has announced plans to introduce demolition services, marking a new addition to its portfolio of waste management offerings.

Established in 2017, WAMCO has steadily expanded its services, which now include waste collection across numerous islands in the Maldives and cleaning services for resorts. The corporation’s latest initiative is set to commence early next year, initially targeting islands in the Greater Malé region.

A media representative from WAMCO told Mihaaru News that the company is already involved in collecting construction debris as part of its current operations. Preparations for the new service include creating tailored packages and consultations with relevant agencies. Pricing details will be disclosed once these preparations are finalised, the official confirmed.

WAMCO’s Managing Director, Mujuthaba Jaleel, emphasised that the demolition work will be carried out by the corporation’s employees. “If additional staff are required, they will be hired, but no new department will be created. The work will fall under the supervision of WAMCO’s projects department,” he explained.

In Malé, the capital, deteriorating buildings pose a safety hazard, with falling debris causing injuries and damage to vehicles. Approximately 15 structures, including private and government buildings, have been identified as requiring demolition, highlighting the urgent need for such services.
