Video games have been around for a long time. The first game was created in 1958 when Physicist William Higinbotham created an interactive machine for fun at an annual event at the Brookhaven National Laboratory in the United States. This game is what is now known as Pong.

The gaming landscape has changed a lot since then. What were once simple lines and two-dimensional sprites on screen have now evolved to fully animated movies controlled by the player. Where once the story was mostly left to the imagination is now fully explored in rich, colorful worlds.

Since 1958, the world has seen incredible advancements in computer technology and this has had a knock on effect on entertainment. The global video game market was one of many industries that benefited greatly from better technology.

Another reason the gaming market has blossomed in recent decades is thanks in part to easier global access to the internet and more games having social elements for players to play with friends. Even in a remote country like ours, gaming is one of the biggest drivers of the entertainment industry. With the rapid spread of smartphones and cheap computers and gaming consoles, almost everyone has access to this past-time at their leisure.

There are lots of reasons why you might enjoy playing games. Some games have hundreds of writers and artists behind it to create a fully detailed world that players can explore and get happily lost in. Some games are inspired by action movies that allow players to feel like a star as they play out their own narrative. And some of the most popular games in the world are sports titles where anyone and everyone can join their favorite teams on their favorite pitch and act out their dreams.

Video games have come a long way since the industry’s humble beginnings. No longer just a schoolkid’s weekend hobby, this is a multibillion-dollar global market that is now seen as a cornerstone of the entertainment industry. This can be seen in Maldives as well, with many younger people forming communities of their own to play their favorite games and even holding competitions on a national level.

We can look forward to the near future where video games are even more accessible to everyone and where you can enjoy even bigger stories and titles – whether by yourself or with your friends.
