
‘Frame by MATATO’ Brings Maldivian Folklore to Life Through Art
The Maldives Association of Travel Agents & Tour Operators (MATATO) launched its annual art event, Frame by MATATO, last night at the Malé Art Gallery. This year’s competition and exhibition revolve around the theme ‘The Maldivian Mystic’, celebrating the nation’s folklore through various art forms.

Designed to bridge art and tourism, Frame by MATATO aims to showcase local talent while fostering a greater appreciation for Maldivian creativity. The event invites artists of all ages to participate, featuring works in drawings, paintings, sculptures, 3D models, and installations.
Voting is currently open for the public to choose their favourite artworks via this link. The top three artists will be selected, with the grand prize winner receiving MVR 10,000, while other winners will be awarded special gift hampers.

The competition is backed by key government institutions such as the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Information, and Art, and the Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage. Additionally, the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) and the National Centre for the Arts are also supporting the initiative.
Through this collaboration, MATATO hopes to elevate Maldivian art and culture on an international stage, offering a platform for artists to express their creativity while engaging both locals and tourists in the country’s rich artistic heritage.
