UMEYZ: Creating and Healing with Nature
U M E Y Z is a Maldivian brand launched in December 2022. Umey Rasheed, also known as Umey, started designing and creating with different mediums at home during the lockdown.

U M E Y Z has a unique concept. Its journey is focused on healing and curiosity, especially creating with your hands. Umey, the founder of the business, believes that nature helps with your mental health and well-being.
Umey’s design journey began when she started exploring her creativity during the 2020 lockdown. When the restrictions were eased, she took classes and workshops in art studios on jewellery making, silversmithing, resin art, pottery and candle making, and many more. This encouraged her to start her own business and two years later, U M E Y Z Maldives started selling their products.
The concept of U M E Y Z begins with healing and curiosity. Creativity begins with curiosity and nature helps with your mental health and well-being. She believes that it is important to continue with this journey by designing and creating for better mental health. Umey hopes to educate and raise mental health awareness while exploring how creativity and nature can improve your mental well-being.
Currently, U M E Y Z is mainly selling jewellery products. But she also makes other products, such as trinket dishes, resin art trays, key chains, and many more. As Umey uses different methods and materials, the process of making the products varies. All of the product designs are inspired by nature and Maldivian culture.
Umey is currently working on the business on a part-time basis. Since she works at a full-time job and designs each product by herself, it doesn’t give her a lot of time to focus to create the products. She hopes to work with a manufacturer and collaborate with other local artisans.
Umey believes that creating more opportunities and making sure they are easily accessible to small businesses should be a priority of the government. Business Center Corporation (BCC) supports small businesses by implementing MSME development projects initiated by the Ministry of Economic Development.
During the initial phase of registering the business, Umey reached out to BCC and they have been a huge support in her journey so far. U M E Y Z was offered the opportunity by BCC to launch the brand during the SME HUB opening events, which is the first-of-its-kind shopping mall for local MSMEs in the Maldives.
