Hamid Saeed: Innovating IT Solutions at STO for Over a Decade
For over 14 years, Hamid Saeed, Senior IT Support Specialist at the State Trading Organisation (STO), has been a cornerstone of the company’s technological evolution.
His journey began in 2010, during STO’s pivotal implementation of the Systems, Applications, and Products in Data Processing (SAP) Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. The project was a challenging milestone requiring tireless dedication. “We worked sleepless nights to meet deadlines, but it was a transformative step for STO,” Hamid reflects.
Adding to the complexity of the SAP implementation, Hamid played a key role in managing Field Service Management (FSM) master data management. Hamid notes that he completed master data management work without sleep and in a short period.
From Daily Challenges to Technological Advancements
Hamid’s role spans managing critical IT infrastructure, addressing system issues, and maintaining operational continuity. On a typical day, he handles ICT support tickets, repairs printers, and oversees access control and attendance systems.
“Every system fault impacts business operations, so swift resolution is essential—even at night,” he shares.
One of his most challenging tasks was setting up regional pharmacies in remote areas. “We arrived at bare-walled sites amidst rough seas and heavy rain, but within tight deadlines, we installed systems, trained staff, and ensured operations began on time. These efforts were crucial for STO’s growth and community impact.”
Driving Innovation in IT
Hamid’s tenure at STO has been marked by proactive innovation. He introduced a printer management system that streamlined workflows, demonstrating his ability to anticipate and address the organisation’s evolving IT needs. He emphasises the shift in IT support from reactive troubleshooting to proactive solutions, ensuring STO’s infrastructure remains robust and future-ready.
“Implementing and managing ERP systems has been particularly rewarding,” Hamid says. “These systems integrate processes across departments, enabling greater efficiency and accuracy.”
Impacting Daily Operations and Beyond
While IT support often operates behind the scenes, Hamid’s work is deeply intertwined with STO’s mission of providing essential goods and services. “Every document and transaction relies on IT. If systems fail, operations halt. My priority is to resolve issues quickly to minimise disruptions,” he explains.
Inspiring the Next Generation of IT Professionals
Hamid’s journey offers valuable lessons for aspiring IT specialists. “Work hard, embrace challenges, and always offer help—whether or not the task is directly related to your role. Success lies in adaptability and teamwork.”
Hamid’s dedication, innovative mindset, and resilience have been instrumental in STO’s technological progress. His work ensures that STO’s IT systems remain a strong backbone, supporting the organisation’s commitment to serving communities across the Maldives.
