Shafna, the talented creator

Shafna Fayaz, 23 years old, founder and owner of Trendy Handicrafts.

Trendy Handicrafts is the outcome of a passion turned into a small business during the coronavirus pandemic. During this time, Shafna took her time to research and try out different methods and techniques. She says that originally, she started working with air dry clay and slowly worked her way through making concrete products.

What excites Shafna most is the creative side of the job, from creating the products to photographing them; she enjoy every bit of what she does.

When asked about the process Shafna said that It usually takes one week to finish a product but the time frame varies from order to order, depending on the quantity and product requested. She often creates a schedule for the week, which allows her to plan ahead and structure her time as she work full time, although, she tries to work on the products every day after work and also during her day off.

She also said that most of the materials she uses for her products are not available in the country, and often times the ones available gets sold out really quick. Therefore, she purchases them online, which adds up to the waiting time for the materials to arrive and it can be a bit of a challenge at times.

Shafna expressed her concern saying that she gets asked if the material used to make this products is plastic or ceramic. She wants to assure that the products of Trendy Handicrafts are handmade using cement. No two products are same in terms of design and color as it will vary from product to product as they are all handmade.

Shafna also believes creating them by hand makes the handmade products special and unique.

Shafna started this business very small with very few products with no real certainty if it would take her to where she is today and she only hopes this inspires her customers and everyone to start doing what they love.
