Shiuna, the Self-taught Resin Enthusiast

MV Plus | September 5, 2021

Aiminath Shiuna, mother of 4, started making products with resin during the pandemic as a hobby. She first started making keychains with flowers by watching YouTube videos. However after seeing resin products made with an ocean theme, she wanted to create her products with a theme more connected to the Maldivian tourism industry.

At first she had no plans to open an Instagram page to sell her work, but after her family and friends convinced her that it could be a successful, she opened the THONArtisan page on social media.

Shiuna says that the biggest issue she faces while making these products is the difficulty of getting the necessary raw materials. She highlighted that getting resin is the biggest issue she faces as resin is very expensive to buy in the Maldives and not being able to import resin forces her to buy it even at high prices.

Shiuna expressed her gratitude towards Authentic Maldives as they helped to get more exposure towards her page by showcasing her products in their shops. She also highlighted that she has recently collaborated with Dhigali Maldives and that her products will soon be available at their Guest Shop.
