Saba, the Artist

Saba, 21 year old artist, started her art based business page when she was 17 years old.

She said that she always used to do creative arts as her mother encourage traditional art such as painting and making origami at home.
In 2016, she started to see Maldivian as well as international artists posting their art in Instagram. She posted her own works on her personal page and got many requests for commission.

She is currently looking to pursue a career in medicine but mentioned that she plans to continue her art business as a side hustle.

Saba mentioned that when she started to sell her products, the business was not very profitable, but now after her products are more widely available, she hopes her business expands even further.

As she and her business is located in her home island Fuvahmulah, it is difficult to find suppliers and deliver her products to customers in other islands. Saba also has high hopes for local tourism to expand in her island as she believes it will do good for businesses like hers.

When asked about the support she receives, she mentioned that the support she gets from her mother is immeasurable.

Saba noted that this is a good way to follow your passion and that this business can be profitable if you put your best into the work you do.
