Nazra Ahmed: Turning Health Hurdles into Wellness Wins
“Patience and consistency are key. Recognise that transformation isn’t instantaneous; it’s a journey, and even gradual progress is valuable,” says Nazra Ahmed, the 37-year-old client-turned-gym instructor at The Wellness Club (TWC) managed by Heat, who used TWC’s NCD Intervention Programme to minimise her PCOD symptoms.
The NCD Prevention and Intervention Programme at TWC is tailored for adults and seniors aiming to prevent or manage chronic diseases, including heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and obesity. It aims to elevate overall health, mitigate chronic disease risk, and manage existing health concerns.
Joining Heat in February 2021, Nazra was battling significant health challenges, including Polycystic Ovarian Disorder (PCOD) that resulted in irregular menstrual cycles and high blood pressure.
“I was constantly getting tired, had irregular periods, and was sleep-deprived due to hormonal imbalances. I even took blood pressure medication twice a day,”
Weighing 73kg with a fat percentage of 38, she was also on medication for Type 2 Diabetes. Guided by the extensive guidance of the instructors at TWC, Nazra decided to commit to her well-being.
Engaging fully with the NCD Intervention Programme at TWC, Nazra was exercising six days a week. She didn’t just view this as a weight loss journey but as a quest for overall well-being. She regularly consulted her medical professionals every three months and participated in weekly assessments at TWC to monitor her progress.
By December 2022, her dedication began to manifest clear results. Her weight dropped to 66kg with a fat percentage reduced to 34. Fast forward to August 2023, and she has achieved an impressive weight of 59kg and a fat percentage of 27.
Within just a year, Nazra managed to come off blood pressure medications entirely. A total weight loss of 12kg and a decrease of 11% in fat within the same duration are a testament to her dedication.
However, it wasn’t just the exercise that made the difference. Nazra embraced a holistic approach to health, integrating healthy eating habits into her lifestyle as advised by the NCD Intervention Programme. This combination of regular workouts and mindful eating was pivotal in her journey to improved health.
For those starting a similar journey at TWC, Nazra has some hard-earned wisdom to share.
“Your journey may span months or even a year, but the key is regularity in exercise and trust in the process.”
Now, as an integral part of TWC, Nazra channels her experiences into helping others overcome their health challenges, proving that with the right strategy and support, transforming one’s life is truly possible.
