The updated clock tower has been equipped to broadcast timely calls to prayer and showcase important announcements and messages.
During the inauguration ceremony, President Muizzu noted that the tower’s redevelopment was initiated during his tenure as Mayor of the Male’ City Council. He emphasised the intention for the new clock tower to resonate across all age groups and announced plans to renovate similar structures in the city to align with contemporary standards.
Originally built in 1990, the clock tower holds historical significance as a gift from Sri Lanka to the Maldives, presented on the occasion of the Silver Jubilee of Maldivian Independence.
