The government is progressing with the allocation of land plots in Hulhumale Phase 2 to recipients of the Binveriyaa scheme, initiated by the former administration.
According to the state broadcaster PSM, 45 plots of land in Hulhumale Phase 2 were handed over last week. To date, a total of 583 plots have been distributed in Phase 2, with an additional 11 plots awarded in Gulhifalhu by the previous administration.
Dr Ali Haider Ahmed, Minister of Housing, Land and Urban Development, informed PSM that 119 plots have been handed over since the beginning of the year. Dr Haider stated that land is being handed over as it becomes available following the clearing process.
Dr Haider noted that addressing issues related to plots situated above essential underground main network lines, which are crucial for providing services, will take time. Additionally, the government has had to revise the boundaries of some plots that overlap with streets.
The plan for Gulhifalhu has also been revised due to the lack of allocated land for constructing basic service and resource facilities, affecting the plots already handed over.
The government confirmed that no changes have been made to the list of recipients awarded plots by the previous administration.
The Binveriyaa scheme, aimed at addressing social housing needs, is distributing plots of land in Hulhumale, Gulhifalhu, and Giraavaru Falhu. This includes 1,351 plots in Hulhumale, 2,218 plots in Gulhifalhu, and 5,432 plots in Giraavaru Falhu.
However, the current administration has approved the voluntary transfer of 1,096 plots from Giraavaru Falhu to Gulhifalhu.
